Scottish independence
I think Cameron is torn between two lovers, he would like to get rid of Scotland and with it, the 41 Labour MPs, he would also like to stop subsidising it. Student grants and prescription charges don't go down well south of the border and the Scots getting them is annoying everyone here, or at least making them jealous. On the other hand, the logistics would be a nightmare with our service bases all needing to be re-located to England with a lot of upset and upheaval, passports, money and possibly border controls. Scots living here, English, Welsh and Northern Irish living there, it is mad.

It all drifts into the Ealing farce 'Passport to Pimlico' made in 1949 when the borough of Pimlico in London fought for independence and home rule. That film could easily be re-created using Scotland. I don't understand how the SNP has done so well with such madcap ideas and just why Salmond is so rated as a politician, it's all so unfeasible and silly. Hence the Mickey take scenarios in the Mail and the Telegraph both of which could be proved right to varying degrees, transporting the country from a small and beautiful nation relying upon the UK, oil and tourism in that order. To a bankrupt and friendless world laughing stock...

So the answer is that there are no answers other than the airy fairy mentality of some Little-Scotland MSPs' with hardly any support from the silent majority of Scots. A silent majority who just want to enjoy the perks that being part of the UK gives them and that they know will go under home rule. So irrespective as to whether they get their referendum now or in 2014 the idea and the expense of doing it will be kicked into the long grass together with the SNP. Cameron will not get his wished for permanent tenancy of No10 as a result of them winning and life will return to normal in the Gorbals and the Glens.
